A good body scrub can genuinely transform your skin. But here's the truth: most people use them incorrectly — and they wonder why their skin doesn't feel as smooth or glowing as they expected.
Our Miracle Art Sugar Scrubs were designed specifically for effective, gentle exfoliation with zero harsh chemicals. In this guide, we'll show you exactly how to use them to get the best results — and what to avoid.
Why exfoliation matters
Your skin naturally sheds dead cells every day. But these cells don't always fall off on their own — they build up on the surface, making your skin look dull, feel rough, and absorb moisturiser less effectively.
Regular exfoliation with a sugar scrub:
- Removes dead skin cells to reveal fresh, glowing skin underneath
- Improves moisture absorption (your body butter or lotion works better after exfoliating)
- Reduces the appearance of ingrown hairs and strawberry legs
- Smoothes rough patches on elbows, knees, and heels
- Improves skin texture and tone over time
Step-by-step: how to use your Miracle Art Sugar Scrub
Step 1: Wet your skin first
Always use your scrub on damp, not soaking wet skin. The water helps the scrub spread evenly and softens the skin surface slightly. Jump in the shower, let warm water run over your body for a minute or two, then turn the water down or off before applying.
Step 2: Scoop out a generous amount
Take a scoop of your Miracle Art Sugar Scrub — about a tablespoon for each body area. You'll be surprised how far it goes. Don't put your wet hand directly back into the jar — use a spoon or spatula to keep it clean and extend its shelf life.
Step 3: Apply in circular motions
Using your fingertips or a loofah, apply the scrub in gentle circular motions. Work in small sections — legs, arms, stomach, back. The circular motion lifts away dead cells more effectively than scrubbing in one direction.
Pressure tip: Firm enough to feel the exfoliation, but never so hard that it hurts or turns your skin red. Let the sugar crystals do the work — you don't need to force it.
Step 4: Pay extra attention to rough areas
Spend a little more time on elbows, knees, heels, and ankles — these areas tend to accumulate more dead skin. For strawberry legs (dark follicle dots), work the scrub in small circles over the area for 60–90 seconds.
Step 5: Rinse thoroughly with warm water
Rinse all the scrub off completely. Your skin will already feel noticeably softer. Pat dry gently with a clean towel — don't rub, which can irritate freshly exfoliated skin.
Step 6: Lock in moisture immediately
This is the most important step most people skip. Apply your body butter or lotion within 2–3 minutes of getting out of the shower, while your skin is still slightly damp. Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs moisture up to 40% more effectively — this is when your moisturiser works hardest.
How often should you exfoliate?
Normal to dry skin: 2–3 times per week
Oily or thicker skin: Up to 3–4 times per week
Sensitive skin: 1–2 times per week, with light pressure
Over-exfoliating can irritate and strip your skin. If you notice redness or tightness, reduce frequency and give your skin a few days to recover.
Why sugar scrubs are better than salt scrubs
We chose sugar as the base for all our Miracle Art scrubs for a specific reason: sugar crystals are smaller and rounder than salt, which means they exfoliate without micro-tearing your skin. They also dissolve quickly in water, making rinsing easy and thorough.
Our scrubs also include Shea Butter and Mango Butter in the formula itself — so even as you exfoliate, you're simultaneously conditioning and nourishing your skin. Two benefits in one step.
